Who can volunteer at Sanctuary?

Sanctuary is a project of the local churches in Gravesend who care about the physical, mental and spiritual well being of the homeless in Gravesend.

It is run on similar lines to Street Pastors in that our volunteers are adults who are…
  • a professing Christian aged over 18 and part of a local church
  • concerned for the homeless sleeping rough on the streets in Gravesend
  • willing to show love and respect to the homeless we engage with, no matter what their faith, personal situation, acquaintances, or things they have done
  • happy to work in a team at the appointed time under the direction of the Sanctuary project managers
  • willing to share their faith and belief in Christ if asked by one of our guests
To be involved as a Team Member, prospective volunteers will be someone who:
  • has been committed to a church fellowship for more than one year, with a personal reference from their minister or church leader
  • has attended the Sanctuary training programme
People who have not completed the Sanctuary training or are not regular members of a local church may still be involved as an Observer.  Observers help on an occasional basis, enabling them to see what we are doing and get a feel for what Sanctuary is seeking to achieve.  This is entirely at the discretion of the Sanctuary Coordinators.

Applications can be made by completing the on-line form shown here.
